About the Trainers
Debbie is a mother, a creator, an educator, an artist, a community and family advocate who, while raising four children, has worked in the field of children and families for well over 30 years. She lives near Boston, Massachusetts.
Debbie coaches and teaches strategies to help children in special education to thrive by knowing who they are and being successful in their environment. Her clinical experience includes working with families with children under age three providing support and coaching to caregivers and their children in the areas of language and communication, overall development, cognitive skills, physical and occupational therapies, social and emotional behaviors, perceptual motor skills and learning styles.
She specializes in emotional and behavioral disorders and works with students who exhibit characteristics as seen with attention deficit hyperactivity disorders, attention deficit disorder, depression, anxiety or conduct disorders, and neurological disorders. Debbie has done her work in classroom settings in public and private-residential schools, child care environments, and in homes.
Now, in private practice, Debbie meets parents and others in home or community settings. She will review the child’s IFSP or IEP and then collaborates with the family to make a plan to address their concerns. She incorporates The Nurtured Heart Approach, Aspirations Framework: 8 Conditions for Student Aspirations, and DIR/Floortime Model and Functional Emotional Developmental Levels.
Debbie has earned a Certificate of Advanced Graduate Studies in Educational Leadership in Administration, Curriculum, and Assessment and Master in Education from Plymouth State University. She held NH Highly Qualified certification as an Experienced Educator with Endorsements in Early Childhood Education, General Special Education K – 12, and Special Education Administration.
Debbie is an Advanced Certified Trainer of the Nurtured Heart Approach. She has advanced training in Developmental, Individual, Relationship-Based (DIR) theory and Floortime. She earned the Domestic Violence Advocacy Certification (DVAC) and volunteers for a non-profit organization.
The ideas of Advanced Community Education is a result of her entrepreneurial experience as owner/operator of the Zeeum, A Children’s Museum and School, in NH, a private children’s museum where children play and learn. Her broad experience of teaching includes infant, toddler, preschool, elementary, middle school/high school students, and adults.
Colleen Carrigg is Debbie’s 3rd daughter who lives near Sarasota Florida. She is a supremely aware woman who sees the light in all areas of life. She is a Certified Firefighter and a Certified Crossfit Coach. She is a Certified Trainer in the Nurtured Heart Approach who speaks from her heart and enjoys teaching others the methods to the Nurtured Heart Approach.
Colleen and her mom attended the Certified Training week in Tucson, Arizona January 2017 where they made some wonderful new friends and learned to juggle!
